Homeowners in need are receiving ramps

AUSTIN, Minn.- Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds homes for people in need, but now they’re teaming up with Riverland Community College to do something a little different.

Lowe’s has awarded a grant for more than $22,000 to the Austin SkillsUSA Chapter at Riverland Community College.

SkillsUSA students will design, build and install six handicap ramps for homeowners in need.

Claudio Gormaz, a homeowner, is receiving a ramp and he is overwhelmed with joy.

“A lot of hands are working behind the scenes that I don’t necessarily know at all. I’m meeting a lot of people that are involved in this for the first time in my life today,” said Gormaz. “I had nothing to do with it. I’m just this fantastic recipient for an incredible gift.”

The SkillsUSA Chapter at Riverland was one of the 15 programs nationwide to receive a Lowe’s grant.
