Breaking Ground for a New Home

Published: Updated:

AUSTIN, Minn.- Habitat for Humanity-Freeborn/Mower and Riverland Community College are teaming up once again to bring a home to a family.

The groundbreaking ceremony for this new house was Wednesday morning in Austin.

It’s the Habitat for Humanity-Freeborn/Mower’s 34th home and their second one in partnership with the Riverland Community Colleges Carpentry Program . They finished their first home together a few short months ago.

Brigitte Fisher , Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity- Freeborn/Mower, says building a house for a family is a way to help them feel a part of the community.

“They all collectively say I want to own a home, I want to stay here and I love this community and home ownership will provide ownership to my kids and our family will feel safer,” said Fisher. “It’s a way for them to feel like they belong in our community.”
